Blue Morpho Butterfly
The blue morpho butterfly is one of the largest butterflies in the world, with a wingspan of 5- 8 inches. Their native habitat is in the tropical forests of Latin America from Mexico to Colombia.
Their metallic blue coloris the result of microscopic scales on the backs of their wings, which reflect light. If however the blue morpho folds its wings, it would show a dull brown color with many eyespots.

The brown underside of the blue morpho's wings provide them a camouflage against predators such as birds and insects.
Can You See the Blue Morpho on my Arm?
When the blue morpho flies, it is hard to see because it seems it disappears. One moment you see the blue, the next moment you won't because of the alternating color of blue and brown flashing.
